OVERVIEW
Vindico Medical Education’s Office of Medical Affairs and Compliance has identified an educational gap in knowledge relevant to human papillomavirus (HPV). According to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), genital HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States [MMWR Recomm Rep. March 2007]. With the recent introduction of immunizations for HPV, pediatricians are challenged to keep informed on the burden of the disease in both females and males, evaluate currently available immunizations and their potential for cross protection against nonvaccine oncogenic HPV types, and review recent clinical study findings on the potential benefits and adverse effects of the immunizations.
